New Series, Morphed in Watercolor and Gouache

The new series, Morphed, in watercolor and gouache, is abstracted butterfly and moth patterns. It was born from the Parched project and focuses on the fragile and beautiful species of the Lepidoptera family of insects responsible for pollination.

As an artist, my creative journey explores the interplay between two captivating mediums: watercolor and gouache. In my series "Morphed," I seek to embrace the harmonious relationship between these two distinct techniques, blending their unique characteristics to create evocative and enchanting visual narratives. I paint on basswood panels over a watercolor ground and then finish the paintings with an archival varnish. This places the colors in front of the viewer instead of behind glass.

With its ethereal translucence and fluidity, watercolor paint lays the foundation for my artwork. It embodies the essence of spontaneity and the unpredictable nature of life itself. Just as water flows freely, so does my imagination, allowing the colors to blend and bleed in unforeseen ways, capturing the essence of the subjects with organic grace.

Gouache, on the other hand, introduces a delightful contrast. Its opaque and velvety nature lends a vibrant intensity to the colors, enabling me to bring out intricate details and highlights that enrich the visual experience. This interplay of transparency and opacity symbolizes the duality of existence, where elements of the seen and unseen converge harmoniously.

My artistic process is a dance of intention and intuition. Each brushstroke reflects my emotional connection with the subject matter, be it the mesmerizing beauty of nature or the complexities of the human spirit. I breathe life into the canvas through meticulous layering and careful restraint, rendering a delicate balance between control and surrender.

"Morphed" is an invitation to immerse oneself in a dreamscape of emotions and thoughts. Each piece reflects the intricate interplay between serenity and dynamism, revealing the multifaceted nature of our existence. I aspire to evoke a sense of wonder and contemplation, inspiring viewers to rediscover the profound beauty of the mundane and the extraordinary.

My paintings remind us of the inherent unity underlying all things in a world that often seems chaotic and fragmented. As watercolor and gouache intertwine, so do the threads of our lives, weaving an exquisite tapestry of human experience.

Through my art, I hope to ignite a connection, a dialogue, and a shared appreciation for the rich, harmonious symphony of colors surrounding us. "Morphed" is not merely a collection of paintings, but an invitation to embrace the vivid spectrum of life, accepting its imperfections, and finding beauty in the most unexpected places.

Drawing inspiration from modern design principles, I have crafted a dynamic composition that showcases the balance of clean lines, bold shapes, and harmonious colors. The painting embraces simplicity while leaving room for interpretation, mirroring the designer's pursuit of elegance and functionality.

The vibrant color palette reflects the ever-changing landscape of design trends, while subtle nuances and gradients add depth and dimension to the artwork. This interplay of colors invites designers to explore the endless possibilities of combining hues to evoke specific emotions and sensations within their work.

In "Emerge," I have endeavored to capture the essence of innovation and creativity. The central motif, an abstract representation of a budding flower or an unfolding origami, symbolizes the birth of new ideas and the continuous evolution of design. It embodies the journey from imagination to realization, reminding designers that every great creation begins as a simple concept, waiting to blossom into something extraordinary.

Texture plays a significant role in this painting, signifying the tactile aspect of design. Through careful brushwork and layering techniques, I have added subtle textures that invite viewers to engage with the artwork on a deeper level. This tactile experience echoes the designer's desire to craft products and spaces that entice the senses and enrich human interaction.

As an artist dedicated to collaboration with designers, "Morphed" serves as an invitation to bridge the gap between art and design. It is a testament to the powerful impact that the fusion of these disciplines can have on shaping the world around us.

In a fast-paced and ever-evolving design landscape, this painting aims to be a source of inspiration, a reminder of the potential within every designer's creative soul. May "Morphed" serve as a catalyst for innovative thinking and a celebration of the magic that happens when art and design converge in perfect harmony.
